The 'Wow' singer admits she is a 'natural flirt' and can't help but admire beautiful women, but is adamant she has never been involved in a same-sex relationship.

"I have been attracted to some women. I am a sexual exhibitionist and part of me is a natural flirt," the 41-year-old told Max Mexico magazine.

I decided that upcoming Monday (January 25) will be my last Kaplaarzen-day. I am doing this blog for 7 months now (started on May 25) and from all the posts I did (201 pieces) I received only a few comments (maybe 10?).

I know I started this blog just for myself, to save my inspirational stuff online, but I decided to post more and more since it got visited that much.

Kaplaarzen Magazine had a lot of visitors already, but I do not get the feeling I post enough interesting stuff since the visitors are not posting their comments. It would have been a huge pleasure to me to receive comments from time to time.

After a silence of 13 years 2 Unlimited is back! January 8 they released their brand new single 'In da name of love' as Ray & Anita.

A good beginning of a new year? No. On the 11th of January it was announced that Anita has breast cancer. She is currently going under treatment to cure the cancer. She said to the press that she will continue performing with Ray, however not very often.

Reports claim X Factor judge Dannii Minogue is pregnant with her first child with boyfriend Kris Smith.

Although there has been no official confirmation from the Minogue camp, it is believed the Aussie, 39, is due to have a baby in the summer.

However, since the story cam out, the Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) has quoted Minogue's agent as saying the rumours are "completely unaccurate".

While local reports in Australia said the star was spotted leaving a maternity clinic, and sources quoted by The Mirror claimed Minogue was "over the moon" about the news, the SMH quoted the star's agent Melissa Le Gear as saying the story was "absolutely untrue".

Minogue and Smith, a former rugby league player, are currently in Australia visiting family and friends.

Throughout the Middle East young artists start to emerge and develop new interesting projects in all different fields of culture (music, fashion, arts, etc). They challenge the differences between modern global youth culture and their traditional Arab culture and try to find a way to combine different values and ideas in a positive and constructive way. They not only have to struggle with certain conservative restrictions of their own society but also with prejudices and misinterpretations in the Western world, which leaves them often with a feeling of isolation and lack of outlet or opportunities.
The display of these young artists, their lives and their creative processes, including problems they have to face, is aimed to inspire other people, mainly young Arabs, to make them realize their own potential and the possible benefits of intercultural communication and cooperation. Our film will give these promising artists a platform to display their work and their ideas and by doing so change the perception of Western audiences of the Arab world as well as show Arab audiences that there is a constructive way how to express themselves and find their place in a globalized world without denying their own cultural heritage.

INSPIRATION THROUGH IDENTIFICATION: We will focus on strong, inspirational characters that our audience can easily identify with as potential role models. We want to capture the lifestyle and the spirit of these young artists and give the audience the feeling that they are actively taking part in the subject’s lives. We will not only show the artists’ work but we will focus on the artists themselves. We want to get an inside view into their private lives, their hopes, fears, aspirations, dreams and views on cultural and socio-political matters. Our main protagonist Zeid Hamdan is the founder of the Lebanese record label and artist collective Lebanese Underground and an active musician as well as actor. He is one of the most important players in today’s Arab underground scene and has a profound understanding of political, social and cultural aspects of the Arabic world. His own projects include cult bands like the Soap Kills and the New Government, and he supports young and/or renowned underground artists like LUMI (electro), Lethal Skillz (Hip Hop) and RGB. We will accompany him on a tour with bands of his label to Beirut, Amman, Cairo and possibly Damascus. During this trip we will show the daily work and challenges Zeid and his bands have to face and will get an inside view into contemporary Arabic culture and the emerging underground scene. In each of the cities we will also meet other people who represent contemporary Arabic arts, who will complete our mosaic-like portrayal of the small but growing underground scene in the Middle East. The film is co-directed by a commercial/music video director and a documentary photojournalist, which will make it visually and stylistically an absolutely fresh and unique documentary experience.

When you think of the words 'Lebanese', 'pop' and 'dance music', your first thought is likely to be large-lunged divas wailing 'Habibi' over a reach-for-the-lasers trance riff. Well, Slutterhouse are here to change all that. The duo combines the powers of rock n roller Rabih 'Mick' Salloum with the electro production wizardry of Nabil Saliba, AKA Trash Inc, and the result is one of the finest electro-pop albums this critic has heard since Gary Numan first donned eye shadow. Slutterhouse fluently combine a pop sensibility of catchy songwriting and an edge of rock attitude with an electro production aesthetic that's credible on even the most discerning of dance floors. That said, it's obvious where the rock influence comes from as soon as one half of the duo, Rabih Salloum, strolls into the Time Out offices: all skinny black jeans, long curly black hair and black eyeliner.

Defiance, the movie.

Last night I've watched the movie Defiance. When I was in Berlin, back in August this year, a girl told me to watch it. I think it's probably one of the most boring movies about the Second World War... It was filmed nicely, but it was like a short story which was repeating for 2 hours...

Defiance is a 2008 war film written, produced, and directed by Edward Zwick, set in the western part of the Nazi occupied Belarusian SSR.

The film is an adaptation of Nechama Tec's Defiance: The Bielski Partisans (see the note below), which tells how the region was in Poland to 1939 and was seized by the Soviet Union in accordance with the Nazi-Soviet pact. Tec writes that Jews in the area of Nowogrodek, or Navahrudak, welcomed the Soviet invasion of Poland in 1939. Tec also writes that when Germany launched Operation Barbarossa in 1941, the Bielskis operated as Soviet partisans in Poland, saving and recruiting Jews into their units.

Defiance stars Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber, Jamie Bell, and George MacKay as four Jewish brothers from Belarus[2] who escaped the Nazi persecution and fought back to rescue fellow Jews. Production began in early September 2007. The film had a limited release in the United States on December 31, 2008,[3] and went into general release worldwide on January 16, 2009.[4] It was released on home media on June 2, 2009.

Note: The Bielski partisans was an organisation of Jewish partisans who rescued Jews from extermination and fought against the Nazi German occupiers and their collaborators in the vicinity of Nowogródek (Navahrudak) and Lida in German-occupied Poland (now western Belarus).

"Between all the drama I am glad to post about such an exciting book. This new book from Tara Books explores the traditional artwork created by women of the Meena tribe. The tribe, located in the Aravalli Hills of India, live in mud homes with tiled roofs. They paint graphic decorative designs all over the walls and floors of their village in white paint. This is a tradition that gets passed from generation to generation between women- mothers teach their daughters. The drawings are mostly of animals, birds, farm life and festivals but the authors noticed that “nurture” seemed to be a reoccurring theme in their work. They decided to focus on that when creating this book. And you might wonder what happens to these drawings over time: “Through all this, the artists know that the images will not last, and that everyday use and wind and weather will fade away the most beautiful and laborious work. Yet the outpourings continue, and it is like an awareness of a full life in the face of mortality.” This book does an incredible job of documenting the artwork. It includes many images of the artwork covering surfaces of all kinds, both finished and in progress. But the best part is that between these pages there are brown craft paper pages where actual Meena designs have been silkscreened in white. I love how these give the reader the full effect of what these designs look like in person. You can get this gorgeous book here."

When I was a teenager I was a huge fan of Linda, Roos & Jessica. This girlband was formed by actresses Babette van Veen (Linda), Guusje Nederhorst (Roos) and Katja Schuurman (Jessica). They were all from Holland's most populair television soap Goede tijdens, slechte tijden (Good times, bad times).

In December 1995 they released their debut single 'Ademnood' ('Breathlessness'), which all started with a joke but became a number 1 hit. Because of the success the 3 ladies recorded an album and released 5 other singles, which all became huge hits.

In the 6th week of 1996 the 3 drag queens Tina, Toos & Tessa released their parody 'Waardeloos' ('Terrible'), which became a hit as well: it peaked at number 7 of the Dutch charts.

Erwin Olaf, 50 years!

Last week I saw a documentary about our great Dutch photographer Erwin Olaf. I always loved his work, but this documentary was showing us a human instead of extravagant photographer. Olaf's latest work is a set of three self portraits entitled '50 Years Old'. The individual images (from top to bottom) are entitled 'I Wish', 'I Am', and 'I Will Be'. It's a social commentary on our society's fascination with youth and Photoshop.

The October issue of the French VOGUE shows Dutch model Lara Stone (25) painted head-to-toe in dark brown makeup. People are calling these images extremely racist, but I simply see it as art... Black women are beautiful and I am sure the editors of VOGUE also think so. In my opinion it's really ridiculous and rude to call VOGUE a racist!

People should get started to understand art:
We are not always a victim of discrimination!

Simin Rafati, studente islamitische theologie aan de Universiteit van Leiden, heeft alle verhalen van Jip en Janneke in het Perzisch vertaald. Met Sinterklaas had het Ministerie van Islamitische Begeleiding geen enkele moeite. Maar met Takkie wel.

Simin Rafati woont al sinds 1984 in Nederland en was een tijdje werkloos. "Ik wilde toen iets gaan doen met de talen die ik ken." Eerst vertaalde ze Checkpoint Jerusalem van Tineke Bennema. Maar dat durfde de uitgever uiteindelijk niet aan, uit angst problemen te krijgen. De verhalen van Jip en Janneke had Rafati aan haar eigen dochter en zoon – nu 12 en 9 – voorgelezen.

Stukjes natuur bij huis
"Toen ze ermee thuiskwamen van de kleuterschool dacht ik: wat een leuke verhaaltjes. En ja, voor Iraanse kinderen lijken Jip en Janneke zo ver weg, zo anders. Maar er zitten heel veel dingen in die alle kinderen van de wereld begrijpen, stoute dingen die ze allemaal doen, stukjes natuur dichtbij huis waar ze op avontuur gaan. Het leven is nog simpel, er is geen computer, er zijn geen games en de moeders zijn allemaal thuis. Dat zijn ze nu in Iran net zo min als hier." De tweede uitgever die ze benaderde durfde het Hollandse avontuur wel aan.

Muisjes
Het vertalen was nog best lastig. "Gebruik je schrijftaal of spreektaal? Spreektaal is minder mooi maar schrijftaal minder gezellig." Ze koos voor een mix. En er is natuurlijk geen beschuit met muisjes in Iran. Ze heeft er maar gekleurde suikerklontjes van gemaakt. Sinterklaas kreeg een lange voetnoot.

Moeite met Takkie
Sinterklaas was geen probleem voor het ministerie van Islamitische Begeleiding, waar uitgevers ieder manuscript moeten voorleggen. Kerst ook niet. Rafati: "Wat denk je nou, in Iran wordt ook kerst gevierd. Daar wonen allerlei christelijke minderheden. Als ik rond kerst in Teheran ga winkelen denk ik: ben ik nou hier of in een dorp in Engeland?"
Maar hondje Takkie bleek wél een steen des aanstoots. Rafati: "Het eerste deel van Jip en Janneke kwam heel gemakkelijk door het ministerie. Daarna stuurde de uitgever maar meteen vier delen in een keer op. En toen viel Takkie op. Honden zijn van oudsher verschrikkelijk onrein in de Perzische islam. Toch had ik het niet verwacht, ik redeneerde: Takkie is weliswaar een hond, maar een hond in een heel ándere cultuur."
Toch mocht Takkie blijven, getuige de illustraties. "Het was ook geen optie om hem te vervangen door een kat, want er zit al een kat in", zegt ze. Maar ze heeft nog geen tijd gehad om haar oorspronkelijke tekst naast de definitieve versie van de uitgever te leggen, om in detail te kijken of er nog passages zijn gewijzigd.

Nederlandse islamologen
Het komend jaar is Simin Rafati heel druk met haar twee masterstudies: Comparative Religion en Islam in the Contemporary West ("Die laatste gaat vooral over West-Europa") en daarna wil ze het vertalen weer graag oppakken. "Maar geen kinderboeken. Ik wil de Nederlandse islamologen gaan vertalen, bijvoorbeeld de boeken van professor Van Koningsveld. Dat is leuk, en ik vind het ook nodig. Er is zo weinig bekend over wat er hier gebeurt. De laatste tijd dringt in Iran iets meer door over wat islamologen in Duitsland doen, maar dat is vooral van horen zeggen. Boeken worden al helemaal niet vertaald."

Eigen namen
Jip en Janneke zijn al in vele talen vertaald, van Engels tot Chinees. "Ik was erg blij dat ze in het Perzisch hun eigen naam mochten houden", zegt Rafati. Het is toch ook goed om te weten hoe mensen in andere talen heten." Als het niet had gemogen had ze er Sina en Mina of iets dergelijks van gemaakt. "Maar gelukkig mocht het wel en zelfs Poppejans heet nog Poppejans."
Hoe de serie gaat lopen in Iran moet nog blijken. "Binnenkort is er in Teheran een grote boekenmarkt. Ik hoop dat hij daar wordt gepresenteerd. Wel heeft de Nederlandse ambassade er al vijfhonderd van ingekocht."

In the 1970s, Googoosh was considered the most celebrated recording artist in Iran. In addition to music, Googoosh was also an actress in many Persian films of the 1960s and 1970s. She is more widely known as a singer than as an actress. After the Iranian Revolution in 1979 she remained in Iran until 2000 but did not record or perform again due to the ban on solo female singers.

Lady Gaga took the music scene by storm with her debut album 'The Fame.' Now she's gearing up to release her second album 'The Fame Monster' and the expectations are set high! As we wait for the release, Lady Gaga has revealed the artwork which is getting many people even more excited for 'The Fame Monster.'

With Gaga's unique and over the top style, does the artwork live up to her name? The first of two pictures has Lady Gaga as a blonde. She's sporting a very sharp, short haircut and a shiny jacket which covers all but her eyes. The picture leaves us trying to understand the expression of her eyes. The second of the pictures has Gaga in a darker, more natural hair color. Her long hair is stringy and placed effortlessly. Her hair covers one of her eyes. The other eye is covered in thick eyeliner which is dripping down Gaga's face. With another close up of Lady Gaga's face, her expression leaves much to interpret. Is this a picture of Gaga's crying causing her make-up to run, or something more?

Compared to the vibrant colors and recent costumes Lady Gaga has been wearing, the pictures are quite simple in black and white and without much fuss and feathers. 'The Fame Monster' will be released November 24 and will include the song "Bad Romance." Check out the images shot by Hedi Slimane and let us know what you think of them.

Stephen Gately: 17 March 1976 - 10 October 2009

Irish singer and actor Stephen Gately, who along with Ronan Keating was one of two lead singers in the boy band Boyzone, has been found dead in Majorca at the age of 33.

An official statement on Boyzone’s website said that Stephen Gately had “tragically died” and that the band would be flying out to Majorca on Sunday. The statement also said that Gately had been on holiday with his long-term partner Andy Cowles when he died on Saturday.

The News of the World reported that Gately had gone out for drinks, returned to his accommodation and gone to sleep, but never woke up.

Gately had a Top 10 solo album in 2000, after the band’s initial breakup. Gately went on to appear variously in stage productions and on television programs as well recording further solo material. In 2008 he rejoined his bandmates as Boyzone reformed for a series of concerts and recordings.

The cause of death is unknown at this time.

Two boys have appeared in court after starting a fight with Spiderman — and getting knocked out by two cross-dressers.

Dean Jonathan Gardner, aged 19, and Jason Andrew Fender, aged 22, were arrested following two separate incidents in The Kingsway which took place just moments apart in the early hours of August 30.

But they picked the wrong victims on this occasion after being floored by two cross-dressers who are believed to have been cage fighters on a night out.

Police confronted Gardner and Fender, both of Llanerch Road, Bonymaen, nursing their injuries after identifying the unemployed pair from CCTV pictures which showed them fighting with people queuing outside the Escape club.

Paloma Faith is an English singer and actress. She is half Spanish and half British. As an ex magician’s assistant, trained contemporary dancer, St Martin’s alumna with an MA in theatre direction, a performer in burlesque show and dance club, and an actress, Paloma has been mixing artistic media throughout her adult life.

A few years ago she introduced music into the equation, at first mimicking the blues and soul singers she admired, but eventually finding her own voice.

Y.A.S. is Mirwaïs Ahmadzaï and Yasmine Hamdan. It's the first international electro project that places the Arabic language at the centre of pop culture!
